Locations

Weve used this location to set the scene and show the audience what the area that the characters are growing up in is like. Its been used as its a very stereotypical location for our chosen genre with flats and high rise buildings.

 This is the location where Jack returns to after mugging Eddie for the drugs. This is later the location where he is located and taken hostage in return for what he has taken. We thought this location was good as its an urban household in a quiet area. As it was a household it was easy to have scenes with dialogue, lots of close up shots were used, especially used to display emotion in the scene when jack reveals to his friends he robbed the notorious drug dealer Eddie.

 This is where the drug drop off takes place. This scene also has Jack robbing Eddie once he picks up the drugs. Elements of the location when filming later at night can create an isolated feeling to match the stereotypes usual found in drug films. Using shot reverse shots within the drop off also add to the isolated feeling and adds to the buildup of suspense. This location gave an eerie and haunting environment. Filming further into the industrial estate also established more of the isolated feeling, as there are no other signs of life around apart from the characters.

 Filming in an gloomy alleyway just before dusk gave very good effect of loneliness and isolation making the audience understand the character was alone. In this scene we film Tim stressed, and running away from something or someone. This location fit all the conventions we needed.

Character Profiles

Jack
Jack - is shown to be very irresponsible with his actions, very clumsy and doesnt think about things properly before he does them, hence the reason he gets kidnapped, he doesnt think of the repercussions of robbing and fighting a drug dealer. -Weve casted Tim as he is a very irrational character to who doesnt think about the future and only in present time to what seems the best and ideal thing to do. This fits in perfectly with the choice whether or not to take the drugs in the trailer, split second option to which he goes for. Jack don't really like the thug lifestyle but has to sell drugs as income otherwise he has no real money . He has a slow walk and moves with his shoulders first and body second, he is the main focus point of the trailer and it follows him finally letting the trap game catch up with him. He's standard clothing consists of tracksuits, dark denim jeans, and white T-shirts, occasionally a bucket hat and gym gloves. Trainers majority of the time will be airmax, he only looks out for himself and his 2 friends; Ben and Shaun, after his family moved away and left him with nothing. His only prop are the drugs he stole, this is the most important prop as it is the main focal point of the trailer and storyline.

Actress: Tim Ind Age of character: 18 Gender: Male

Ben

Actress: George Lowe Age of character: 18 Gender: Male

Ben shown to be floating between both doing stupid actions and being responsible, not as extreme as jack but still getting caught up in mischief. The dopier of the two friends who plan to rescue Jack.He has become angered with his experiences from the past and has had to learn to deal with situations in his own way, this usually leads to him acting and wiling out and becoming destructive. Ben never really agreed with the school and education lifestyle and would rather chill out with his friends than succeed in the classroom, this lead to many arguments within his household and lead to him moving out and getting his own place, he has to sell drugs to make his income and keep him afloat. He tries to maintain a appearance by selling drugs round Erdington and the nearby estates while not stepping onto Vic and Eddies turf. He's a relaxed person and dont really care too much on whats happening around him, he likes majority of people as he dont take the business side as serious. He's standard clothing consists of tracksuits, occasional jeans, and dark Tshirts. His trainers are majority of the time; airmax. His props will be his car, which he goes around in selling and picking up drugs in.

Shaun

Actress: Ryan Muldoon Age of character: 18 Gender: Male

Shaun the level headed character of the 3 kids, shown to be the thinker. He does most of the plotting on how to get Jack back and safe. -In real life Ryan is shown to think about things logically with good judgment, with healthy skepticism. Shaun is the more smarter and sophisticated of the group who has clearly thought about making a difference to his hard life growing up on the streets and learning to look after himself and his family., he wasn't the brightest in school but worked hard and realised success is down to hard work. He has become toughened up from his own background and poor experiences in the past, his parents weren't around much but he still lives with them. He gets around on foot as he does not drive, you'll usually find him with Ben, running and selling drugs round Erdington and the estates. He's a relaxed person and is very opinionated of people. He's standard clothing consists of tracksuits, occasional jeans and dark clothing. He will mostly be wearing trainers for comfort as hes on his feet all day selling drugs and running errands with Ben.

Vic

Actress: Zack Stride Age of character: 18 Gender: Male

Vic Vic is shown to be the dopier of the two, a more of a hand on character, seen as a brute. Doesnt do much of the thinking or speaking and is a very physical character. He initiates the kidnapping and is in control due to him having the gun. Vic has been in the drug industry for numerous years, running the circuit for his manager Ray. Hes seen lots of violent experiences that arent for the faint hearted, so kidnapping Jack is minor compared to what he's witnessed. Zack is shown to be a very abrupt and physical within his personal qualities. Shows signs of antisocial behavior, a diminished capacity for empathy or shear remorse which links in well with his role in the film. He is shown to have poor behavioral controls and fearless dominance. Initial costume ideas for The kidnappers will be for them to be wearing older clothes, in all black and grey, mainly tracksuits as to what a stereotypical dealer would wear. His prop will be a 9mm gun, this is used for scaring the group when he and Eddie break into the house when kidnapping Jack. The gun represents power and intimidates his opponents.

Eddie

Actress: Matthew Groves Age of character: 18 Gender: Male

Eddie is shown to be the brains of the duo, does most of the talking and thinking behind the plot as he is in desperate need to impress the boss; Ray. Its his idea to get the drugs back to save himself and Vic, however they are both out of their depth and comfort zone as theyve never done anything like this before even though they have seen worse done by others. Eddie has been partners with Vic for numerous years and they pair are very close. They do everything together. He is a typical hoodlum who has clearly had a hard life growing up on the streets and learning to look after himself due to his hard outer shell. He has become toughened up from his experiences and what hes seen in the past and had to learn the hard way getting into lots of trouble due to the job role he is in. He's standard clothing consists of tracksuits and dark clothing. This is so he blends in with the terrain and location when hes out on the roads selling drugs. He usually wears Trainers majority of the time, these will be airmax, he uses his head before acting so when he carries out a move it will be done properly.

Props

 Camera- Our group are using a school video recorder to film the whole trailer. The reason that we have decided to use only one camera throughout the process is so that the definition of the footage remains the same and does not look different and amateur when in the process of editing and when audience view the footage. We were also given a tripod to make sure that our shots are professional. This excludes scenes being shaky by hand holding the camera and looking amateur. It also makes sure that the camera is secure in properly and also allows us to perform numerous camera movements such as a pan shot, high and low angles. This increases the variety of shots that we are able to produce and include in the film trailer. The tripod is able to move onto different heights which is perfect for when we want to change the level of the shot to represent positions such as inferior or superior. Car- We have decided to use a car in the production, this being a BMW 1 series. This is because we can move between scenes easily and we can also use it to show the passing of time, this also helps set scenes and gives a real life feel to the narrative. Also this is fundamental to the narrative as the scene where the drugs are dropped off helps the story unfold. Also as the youth are now fascinated with owning cars we feel it is appropriate to the social realism side of the genre, the type of car shows what can happen if you make it in the drug industry, its a statement to the up and coming sellers as its false realisation. Its also very stereotypical for a dealer to drive a car like this, the car is lowered, big speakers and blacked out windows. Drugs- This prop revolves fundamental to the narrative. We have decided to use this as it has high street value and is becoming increasing popularised by the youth, which makes it easy to sell and gives a realistic feel to the film. Also we felt that cocaine was a realistic drug and could be sold for a high price on road, so it was easy for someone to be after it and for someone to want it. However due to it being a class A drug we are unable to get the real thing we had to use crushed up Paracetamol and flour. Gun- We decided to use this prop due to it being typical in the urban crime genre, this is a typical syntactic convention of the genre. This prop can show signs of hierarchy and status, this prop can easily portray dominance and power between characters within in the production. Even though the prop has a high risk, it is a replica and not the real thing.
