CHAPTER 2 OBJECTIVE AND METHODOLOGY OF THE PROJECT

The objective of the project is to design a hybrid powertrain for an existing LGV with the possible benefit of conversion of the existing IC engine powered LGV itself into a hybrid. The aims of the project are as follows: To identify the market need for a Hybrid LGV. To design a parallel type hybrid powertrain for an LGV. To identify the conditions in which motor can drive and design controllers for automatically switching the drive between engine and motor. To reduce the fuel consumption per kilometer and emission considerably. To reduce the initial cost in hybridizing a vehicle. To see for the possibilities of downsizing the engine and reduce the weight of the powertrain.
