Professional Development Plan
Throughout studying my degree, I have developed many professional attributes that
have grown during my practicums and different subject areas. Although I am
confident I have met the majority of standards for a graduate teacher, there are
areas that I would like to develop in further. This development plan includes the
steps I plan to take to ensure my professional learning continues well into becoming
a practicing teacher. I also will reflect on the skills and strategies that I believe need
the most development. I will aim to always strive to develop my professional
attributes no matter how experienced I am. There is always something new to learn
that can enhance my teaching ability. Key areas that I would like to develop on have
been placed into my development plan. This plan will be based on my first year of
becoming a practicing teacher; however will continue for the rest of my career. I will
also identify the support networks in which I will be a part of so that I am supported
and have people who can provide me with my chosen career.

Strategies that I would like to focus on in my first year of teaching include behaviour
management, being organised, and generally working on becoming a better teacher.
Although a lot of this comes with experience, getting to know your students and
having great teachers around to be able to learn off.

To develop my learning I intend to include a lot of reflecting in my lessons, units and
general management skills. Although this will require a fair amount of extra work, I
believe it will help me continue to become a good teacher from learning from my
successes and areas I need to work on.
Attached is a table that shows the areas of certain standards in which I do not feel I
have yet accomplished completely. This development plan will assist in
being confident in all areas of each standard.

Professional
Standard
Personal Goal How I will develop this standard
Standard 2

2.2
Content selection
and organisation

To be able to
improve in lesson
planning and
sequencing units by
using a plan I have
used
- To develop this standard greater, I will
be looking to implement a unit plan of
my own in a real class setting.
Although I have experienced this at
university, I am yet to have a real class
setting for my units to find out whether
they work
Standard 5

5.2
Provide feedback to
students on their
learning

5.3
Make consistent and
comparable judgements

5.4
Interpret student data

My goal is to be
confident in
assessing students
and being able to
mark assessments
and interpret the
data
- I will also need to work on this
standard in upcoming classroom
experience.
- A way in which I am able to develop
this is attending an assessment
professional development seminar, this
will give me an insight into other
peoples assessing strategies and be
able to develop my capabilities
- By having a mentor at a school would
be a great way to have someone to
consult with when marking
assessment.
Standard 6
6.4
Apply professional
learning and improve
student learning

To always improve
myself as a teacher
- There is always something for me to
learn about being a great teacher; this
means students benefit from updated
technology and a teacher who is
passionate.
- By attending regular development days
and seminars I will always be learning.
-
Standard 7
7.2
Comply with legislative,
administrative and
organisational
requirements

My goal is to be well
aware of school
policies and
regulations and
follow them within
my classroom
- This is a goal that will be worked
towards once becoming a part of a
school
- I will be able to develop this with
reading any information I have about
the school and continuing to have
mentors that can guide me
- A way I can start this goal development
is to become engaged in school
communities such as Brisbane Catholic
Education and Education Queensland
to know about their policies and values.
