The Respiratory system

By: Meagan chau

The Respiratory system is also called the ventilatory system is a
system made of organs and tissues which functions to helps you take in
oxygen and expel carbon dioxide. Red blood cells gather the air from
our lungs and bring it to parts of the body where it is needed. During
that time, red blood cells assemble the carbon dioxide and transport it
back to the lungs where it leaves us to exhale.
There are ten organs in the respiratory system, one of them is the
lungs, another one is the airways, which is the passage which air travels
through. And there is the diaphragm,
which is the muscle under your lungs.
Another one is Bronchi, which is tubes
that lead into your lungs, there is also the
larynx, which is the voice box
Trachea-connects the nose and
mouth to the lungs
Orpharynx-part of the pharynx
Epiglottis-a tissue at the back of
the tongue
Nasopharynx-connects the nasal to the throat
Laryngopharynx-the part behind & below the pharynx

The respiratory system function is to first breathe in oxygen
through your mouth or nose, then the air travels to your neck or voice
box and into your lungs. Later the airways trap the germs and particles
to fill up the air that you breathe into carbon dioxide.
Do you know how to keep the respiratory system healthy? There
are many ways to keep your respiratory system, other than
not smoking.
One way is to exercise regularly for 30min 1 hr.
For grownups going for a jog or going to the gym is one
the common ways of exercising. For kids just walking or
running to the playground or having a run in the park is
enough.
Another way is to keep a balanced diet of fruits and
vegetables. For breakfast, lunch and dinner your meal
should include a variety of different food on your plate.
Last but not least, it is very important to keep your
body hydrated by drinking plenty of water, especially on hot days. The
average amount of water is 8 cups, but anything around 4-6 cups is
alright.
Here are some of the diseases of the respiratory system:
Asthma-A common disease where your airways get narrower
causing you to have difficulty breathing.
Lung cancer-A type of cancer that can be caused by cigarette
smoke. Some of the symptoms of the lung cancer are wheezing,
coughing up blood and body pain.
Pneumonia-A disease that infects a deep part of your lungs
Tuberculosis- A deadly infection caused by bacteria that
effects your lungs
Laryngitis- A disease that makes your larynx swell and
irritated
Emphysema-A disease related to cigarette smoke which
causes you to have difficulty catching your breath
Bronchitis-A bronchial tube infection
Tonsillitis-A disease that affects your tonsils and causes
them to enlarge
Bronchiectasis- A disease that causes your airways to expand
and causes destruction to your airways
Influenza-A ear, nose and throat disease that causes you to
have sore throat, fever, aching muscles and headaches

-When your heart pumps blood into parts of the body,
the respiratory system gives oxygen for your body and into
your blood .so that oxygen in your blood is going around to part
of your body.
The respiratory system interacts with the digestive system,
when your chewed up food goes down your esophagus and into
your digestive system, the oxygen form your respiratory
system is to make and produce blood.
