Found online The painting of of an African family dancing around with joyous smiles on their faces. The title of the painting was "Slaves Dancing After Freedom," so that is why they are so overjoyed. The slaves had to endure many hardships and a life of misery, so their joy after being freed is expected. The meaning of the picture is that is it trying to tell you how overjoyed the slaves were when they were nally free from their imprisonment. They are dancing around and praising, which emphasizes how terrible slavery was. The smiles and dancing are symbols of happiness and joy. Obviously I have no personal experience with slavery, but I know from textbooks, movies, and songs how terrible and harsh it was. This painting is poetic because it moves me with sadness, remembering all that I know about slavery, but also joy, knowing that slavery is no longer going on today. The idea of this painting also makes me wonder how humans could do such things to other human beings, based on something so trivial as the color of their skin. Taken at Tahoe The picture is of an open hill, covered in snow. It was the rst snowpack of the year , and was the rst I went skiing of the year as well. The hill is also covered in trees. The openness and beauty of the hill really struck me as poetic. Looking out at what was in front of me, all I could do was stare at the greatness. That is why I like this photo so much, because of the memory of standing on the hill that it brings back. The meaning of this picture to me is peace and freedom. The openness and beauty of the picture really moved me. The open hill is a symbol of freedom, and the trees and snow covering it make the hill a symbol of beauty as well.
