Analysis based and textual based Vocabulary o two part, define word, what quote from the text tells you this Half non-fiction o e.g. speech from a president, correspondent between him and his wife o personal views contrast with his public political beliefs Two Major Shifts o All textual based find the correct sentences, click and drag them over, choices from the entire text English has come up with new components. o Every single reading question needs to have quotes to support their statement o 3 direct quotes for each box o Maybe do 3 categories per test o Can write, can highlight the sentences o doesnt matter how the evidence is shown Second Shift Contextual Vocabulary o Pick a word you think nobody knows, show the text, and have students define it o students should explain the word through the sentences around the sentence with the word in it All essays should be test based with quotes, no paraphrases, cite the quotes o be direct PARCC written on the Common Core Standards Anything on paper, give the students a highlighter o can be small groups o what lines did you choose, why? o which one is more right and why o critical reading skills Other Skills o All writing assignments are textual based o each writing is based on three different readings that they must synthesize o give two articles over a non-fiction topic and have them synthesize o How is it being addressed? How are the authors talking about the same idea differently? Incorporate timed writings Do graphing online to help math with PARCC
English part is fiction is literary analysis o not seen until college for us, but starts in the 4th grade test o what is the tone in these articles how do these tones differ o how does the setting influence the overall meaning of the piece
anything that can be done is textually based will help o do as much writing about texts as possible
