Synthesis Essay

When anger stems from feeling empowered because one believes that life should be fair for
society and because one wants society to move forward for future generations then that is when anger is
productive (source A). However, as soon as one finds oneself getting mad at absolutely everything,
even with the little things, like when someone forgets to put the cap back on milk carton, then that is
when the anger becomes destructive. It is also destructive when one is angry all the time but refuses to
express that anger, that anger then becomes pointless because it has no purpose.
Anger is commonly felt when one feels that things arent fair for themselves of even other
(Source C). Wanting the best for someone else regardless of who they are or their background,
whether theyre rich or poor, black or white, etc, reflects that kind of person you are which is
considerate.
One of the most common things that are difficult for someone is to accept criticism. Most
people dont want to be told that whatever they are doing or did was not good enough, lets face it, who
would? Its completely justifiable for one to want to hear that theyre good enough even if its not the
truth. But when criticism is told constructively, it can make one want to move forward from ones
mistakes or improve because they now have that drive to do better that they might have previously not
had. Although, criticism most commonly has a negative connotation when heard. It still has the potential
to give people a reason to want to do better. Its a force that drives them to be the best that they can
be. Anger is negative because its not a happy emotion thus people make it out to be a bad thing,
but negativity has its place and sometimes that negativity can lead to positive outcomes (Source A).
When most people think of criticism, they feel that it is more judgemental and arrogant from the judge to
the judge-e than it is helpful. However, when looked at with a different perspective, as in a way to
improve oneself, then that judgement is needed. How else are we supposed move to the next level
with things if we continue to tell white lies to not hurt someone when really white lies only hurt not help?
The the answer is never. Negativity is needed for society to move forward in life.
Anger can however be destructive too. Anger isnt always a good thing, but its not in the way
that most people think anger would be. Anger is destructive when one gets mad at everything! It is more
so destructive to ones self than it is to others. Getting mad is only acceptable when it has the ability to
make someone want to improve themselves but not when one finds oneself getting mad at every little
detail and instead of speaking up about the things that makes one angry, we hold it in. When anger is
internal it is negative because its bottling up inside and it damages one because its evil to do that
oneself. As Thomas Fuller said, He that keeps anger long in his bosom giveth place to the devil.
(source D). Its like when you put too much milk into your bowl, what happens after you add the
cereal? It overflows. The cereal overflowing is equivalent to the evil that you put upon yourself when
you decide that its best to just keep it to yourself all the time. Allowing anger to eat away at us is
unfair to us.
There is a fine line between anger being productive and being destructive. Being angry all the
time is unnecessary but using anger to help ourselves and others is only beneficial. If society can benefit
from a few maybe you shouldnt and a few maybe you should this.. this way then let it happen.
