Has been around for HUNDREDS of years!!

Welcome to the DIGITAL world!
*Using the many technologies commonly used by the
public to increase conceptual understanding
ENHANCE A LESSON WITH
DIGITAL STORYTELLING
Just as storytelling has been used in the past to provide a tangible
perception of content, the same concept can work in your specific
content area.
Digital storytelling allows the instructor to add much more
engaging characteristics to a lesson, by consciously utilizing the 7
elements of Digital storytelling.
7 ELEMENTS OF DIGITAL
STORYTELLING
1. Point of view What is the main point of the story and what is the
perspective of the author?
2. A dramatic question A key question that keeps the viewers attention and
will be answered by the end of the story.( Ex. Essential questions or objectives)
3. Emotional content Serious issues that come alive in a personal and powerful
way and connects the story to the audience. (Ex. Real life experiences to relate to
students.)

4. The gift of your voice A way to personalize the story to help the audience
understand the context. (Authenticity)
5. The power of the soundtrack Music or other sounds that support and
embellish the storyline. (Individuality)
6. Economy Using just enough content to tell the story without overloading
the viewer. (Differentiation)
7. Pacing The rhythm of the story and how slowly or quickly it progresses.
(Tiered level assignments for gifted or special needs students)
CONCLUSION
Based on the articles, the teachers, parents, and students I have
interviewed compiled with personal experience I believe that
incorporating digital storytelling will increase student interest and
performance. Although this is an exciting technique, it will fail unless
there is strong supervision and training for teachers to effectively
integrate the strategies to achieve the great potential digital storytelling
can produce.
