Entrance Ticket
What do you know about Cystic Fibrosis?
List one fact about it. If not, then what do
you think it is?
Essential Question
Why is it important to learn the biology
behind heredity?
Context
Before this project, we learned about
Genetics - the study of how traits are passed
from parents to offspring
Dominant Alleles & Recessive - Inheritance
pattern in which one allele is dominant over
the other.

What I was asked to do
The teacher asked me to create a
pamphlet and assigned me a disorder.
I researched the common symptoms, who
it commonly affects, and if there is any
cure or treatment.
Essential Question
Why is it important to learn biology behind
heredity?
Vocabulary
CF- Cystic Fibrosis
Genotype- The genes of an organism
Phenotype- Physical characteristics of an
organism
Probability- Likelihood that a particular
event will occur
Cystic Fibrosis - Disease Process
Causes the body to produce mucus thats extremely
thick and sticky
This thick, sticky mucus clogs passages in many of the
bodys organs and infections sets in
People with CF have trouble digesting food and getting
the vitamins and nutrients they need
Common Symptoms

Who it Commonly Affects
Both females and males
Most common among Caucasians of
Northern Europeans descent
Also, common among Latinos and American
Indians
Less common among African Americans and
Asian Americans
Cure or Treatment
No cure but there is a treatment
Preventing and controlling lung infections
Loosening and removing thick, sticky mucus from the
lungs
Preventing or treating blockages in the intestines
Providing enough nutrition
Preventing dehydration ( a lack of fluid in the body)
Essential Question
Why is it important to learn the biology
behind heredity?
Passing It On...

allele have a child?
Parents: Cc x Cc

Personal Reflection
I chose this project because I really like it and I thought it
was an interesting disorder. I didnt know it ever existed. If I
could do this project again, I would start it earlier and have
a little bit more information. For example:
I would not procrastinate
I would have more info. about the disease process
