Bronchitis

Bronchitis is a respiratory disease in which the mucous


membranes of the bronchial passages in the lungs
become inflamed.

Acute bronchitis usually comes on quickly and gets
better after several weeks.

Chronic bronchitis is defined clinically as a daily cough
with production of mucus for at least a 3-month period,
two years in a row.
If you are a smoker and come down with acute
bronchitis, it will be much harder for you to recover.

Approximately 90% of cases of acute bronchitis are viral
infections, while 10% are bacterial.

Chronic bronchitis may be caused by one or several
factors, but the primary cause is heavy, long-term
cigarette smoking.

Know the symptoms of bronchitis.

-Productive cough
-Lack of energy
-Wheezing ( may / may not be present )
-Fever ( may / may not be present )

Know when it's time to call your doctor.

-Chest cold more than 2 weeks
-Fever
-Bloody cough
-Shortness of breating / wheezing
Home treatment for bronchitis.

-Drink fluids
-Rest
-Dont smoke
-Take aspirin or acetaminophen
Your doctor can easily detect and diagnose bronchitis
by examination.

Treatment for acute bronchitis may consist of rest, lots
of fluids, avoiding smoke and fumes, and medications

In severe cases of chronic bronchitis, inhaled or oral
steroids may be recommended to reduce inflammation.
In severe cases of chronic bronchitis with COPD your
doctor may prescribe oxygen therapy

Simple tips can help you reduce your risk of
getting bronchitis.

-Avoid smoke
-Avoid dust, stay away from pets
-Rest

-Eat healthy diet
-Wash your hands often
