Resumen de la unidad
Healthy eating means eating a variety of foods that give you the nutrients you need to have a good
nutrition, maintain your health, feel good, and have energy at school for better learning.
This unit familiarizes the student with the nutritional value of foods and points out the importance
of having a good nutrition.
He/she does a survey related to his/her eating habits and through the brainstorming technique; he/she
answers some exploratory questions such as: How can food help you learn? What you eat can affect how
well you do at school? What is nutrition? In order to know his/her previous knowledge about the topic.
However, with the data gotten through the survey and the information researched on internet, he/she
works in group of four students by playing different roles (coordinator, time keeper, recorder and
reporter) to analyze the causes and consequences of a bad nutrition which let him/her uses that
information and create a poster to promote a healthy eating campaign based on having good nutritional
habits for better learning. Finally, At the end of these activities, he/she plays the most important role that
is to be a chef and who will prepare a healthy breakfast recipe in class. With all these activities, the
student will develop their basic language skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) in order to be
able to communicate in the English language.

Resumen de evaluaciones
This lesson begins with a survey done by the students where they will select the best choice related to their nutritional habits.
They will try to define with their own words what nutrition is? And through the brainstorming technique, they will list and
identify foods that they eat every day and their mothers would recommend, either from pictures or by name. Students then will
classify that list in junk food vs, healthy foods through a mind map. They need to understand the concept of nutrition and
healthy as something that is good for the body. Students will research about causes and consequences of a bad nutrition and
in groups of threes, they will make a class discussion about the information gotten on internet and about the different types of
foods they enjoy to eat according to whether or not they would be considered part of a healthy diet. They will create a poster
using the information discussed by groups in order to develop a campaign about the importance of eating healthy for better
learning. This poster will be evaluated with a rubric. Finally, they will make a healthy balance breakfast recipe, where they
will teach to the audience how to prepare it step by step through an oral presentation. This activity will be evaluated through a
check list.

Procedimientos


Activity # 1
Does a survey about his/her eating habits.
Defines with his/her own words what is nutrition?
Lists the different food groups and some foods that he/she remember in English.
Classifies them in junk and healthy foods through a mind map.

Activity # 2

Researches on internet 5 causes and 5 consequences of a good and bad nutrition.
Makes a group of four students by choosing its members randomly to form it. Also, he /she
discusses in group the information gotten on internet to select the best ones in order to
make his/her eating healthy Campaign.. All group members play a different role in the task:
coordinator(distributes work), recorder (takes notes), time keeper(monitors time and keeps
the group aware of time) and reporter(group spokesperson to the class)
Brings pictures and uses the information gotten on internet selected to elaborate a poster in
group of threes in order to call people attention about how to change their bad nutritional
habits
Creates his/her own balanced healthy breakfast recipe.


Activity #3
Explains and describes his/her poster in group.
Brings junk and healthy foods to support his/her points of view allowing some volunteers to
select which type of food prefer.

Students, who speak English doesnt, have any problem in my class because
we can communicate with them in the target language. But, those students
who speak any native dialect, we have to talk with their parents to look for
the way to translate the information given in class in order to adequate the
curriculum according to their needs. The use of visual aids can help us to
communicate and evaluate or assess those students.
