Physpap3 2011 #4 work, power, energy, machines

Work done = force X dist moved in direction of the force.

Work done = 500N x 6m = 3 000Nm
Power VxI 110V X 9.0A = 990W power= energy/ time energy = power X time =990W x 5.0s = 4 950 J
OR Voltage is the work done or energy transferred per quantity of charge V = W/ Q or W = Q X V but Q = I X t
so W = (I X t) X V (pg 198 blue book) W = 9.0A X 5.0s X 110V = 4 950J
Some of the energy output by the motor is converted into heat energy
friction

Efficiency = Work output / work input X 100%
= work done on the load / work done by the effort X 100%
= (load X dist moved by load) / (effort x dist moved by effort) x100%
= [(500N x 6m) / (effort x 10m)] X 100% = 80%
= [3 000Nm / effort x 10m] x 100% =80% Effort = [(3 000Nm /10m) x 100%] / 80%
Effort = 30 000N% /80% = 375N

Increase the strength of the magnet in the motor, increase the number of turns of
the coil in the motor
