AS YOU READ CHAPTER 29 This week we read Chapter 29 of The Story and learn about a man named Saul who turned into Paul! 1. Paul and Silas traveled around preaching about God. Some people loved them; others wanted to hurt them. One time they were arrested and chained up in jail. Instead of feeling sorry for themselves, they sang and prayed to God. Why were they doing this? Prayer: God, we ask you to help us be strong in times where we are scared and hurt. We ask we learn from Paul and Silas and make the best of any situation we are in. Amen! 2. How would you act if you were thrown in jail? Would you sing? Would you be scared? Prayer: God, we thank you for showing us how Paul and Silas acted when being thrown into jail. We ask we learn from them and remind ourselves to be strong in any situation we are put into. Amen! 3. Why werent Paul and Silas scared? Prayer: God, thank you for always being with us wherever we are. We ask you help us have a faith so large that nothing scares us. We ask when we are in those situations that we pray to you help for comfort and healing. Amen! 4. A powerful earthquake opened all the jail doors and made the chains fall off. Why didnt Paul and Silas escape? Prayer: God, remind us we are to obey your laws and the laws that are put into place today on this earth. We ask that we obey them even if we dont believe in them, because that is what you would want us to do. Amen! 5. Paul suffered a lot for Jesus Christ. He was blinded, beaten, stoned and jailed. But he said suffering was good because it creates perseverance, character and hope. What do you think about this? Prayer: God, thank you for helping us to be strong and develop more faith in you when we go through hard times in our lives. We ask you help us learn from every situation and that we grow closer to you. Amen! Weekly devotional sheets can be downloaded online at hopewdm.org/thestory 2013 Lutheran Church of Hope F A M I L Y
