Introduction
1 min - The teacher writes on the board the date and the goals of
1 min the lesson.
1 min - Role calling
- The teacher collects report “my favorite sport”

Core of the class 3 min - The teacher asks their students to make groups of 3
Pre-stage students.
- The teacher asks the students to move their desks to work
in group.
- The students move their desks towards the wall (or
windows) in order to see each other with their classmates.

5 min - The teacher gives their students the handout “breaking


news”
- The students read aloud the handout (the teacher asks
some students to read the news).
- The teacher asks their students if the event are from a) the
present b) the future c) the past.
- The students think about it and answer.
- The teacher asks their students to underline the verbs in
the news.

While-stage 15 min - The teacher gives to every group a timeline and 7 little
sheets of paper.
- The students are asked to change the verbs of the news
into past, copy the news in the little sheets of paper in the
past tense, and stick them in the timeline in chronological
order.
-The teacher walks around the classroom to answer
students’ questions and to assess the student’s work.
-The students and the teacher check their answers to see if
the order of the news is correct.
-The teacher writes a definition of the past simple tense
with some gaps on the board.
-the teacher asks their students to help her, to fill in the
gaps with the missing information.
