Abstract

This report is based on a destructive test on two reinforced beams of the same mix design in order to
determine the flexural strength. During the experiment the failure load for beam 1 was determined to
be 44 kN, while beam 2 had a failure load of 50 kN. Beam 1 was observed to have a total deflection
11.54 mm and beam 2 had a deflection of 8.56 mm. During the analysis of the results, the design
moment of resistance was determined to be 6.48 kNm, which was less than the actual calculated
moments. The average compressive strength of the design mix from the testing of 10 sample cubes was
determined to be 27.42N/mm
2
. All these results obtained were obtained within experimental errors.
