English Language Arts 'Grade 7/8( - Students will focus on grade level texts, gradually
increase independence, increase exposure to non-fction texts, make progress through
performance tasks, draw evidence from text to write, and change the nature of classroom
conversation.

the our classroom. -he Daily 9 is a series of literacy tasks #reading to self, reading with
someone0listening to reading, and working on writing$ which students complete daily while
the teacher meets with small groups or confers with individuals. ?ur goal is to create a
structure that will help students develop the daily ha!its or reading, writing, and working
with peers that will lead to a lifetime of independent literacy.

%t the end of each 1uarter, students will take a cumulative examination including all
the materials covered that 1uarter. Students :3S- !e present for the exam in order
to !e assessed. Students missing an exam will receive a zero grade for the exam.
Students with con+icting appointments or travel dates :3S- make alternate
arrangements with us !efore exam day.

C. Students will !e marked tardy for entering class or !eing out of their seat after
class is scheduled to !egin. %ny students later than CE minutes to class after the
scheduled start time will !e marked a!sent.
F. Students a!sent or tardy to class are responsi!le for fnding out work missed !y
checking the course calendar #located in the classroom. %ny 1uizzes or tests
missed are the responsi!ility of the students to schedule for a make-up. Students
have two days for each day missed to make-up missed work from days a!sent.
Students with excessive a!sences will need to make up work outside of the school
day !y making an appointment with one of the teachers.
C. Students should enter the classroom 1uietly, o!tain their note!ook and !linder
from the designated crate, and sit in assigned seat with materials #note!ook,
!inder, pencil$.
F. Students are to use the restroom !etween classes for they will not !e allowed to
leave once class has started unless in an emergency.
9. %s soon as the !ell rings to !egin class, students should immediately date their
"ournal entry and !egin Bound C6 /ork on /riting !y responding to the daily "ournal
topic.
A. Students are to remain in their seats at %77 times unless receiving permission from
the teacher !y raising their hand.
@. During instruction, students are to remain 1uiet and respectful of the instructor and
peers.
(. Students are to wait for the teacher to dismiss them !efore exiting the classroom.
