1) Chief Executive-
A. The President oversees the top of the Cabinet along with the government agencies that
are large.
B. The President can issue Executive Orders.
a. The President enforces laws.
b. The President makes sure that laws are faithfully executed.
C. The President appoints judges to the Supreme Court.
a. This is done along with other Federal Courts.
D. The President grants pardons.
a. The President can issue freedom from punishments to convicted criminals.
E. The President grants reprieves.
a. The President can delay punishments to convicted criminals.
F. The President grants amnesty.
a. The President can grant pardons to a group of people.
2) Chief Diplomat
A. The President conducts Foreign Policy (how the US interacts with foreign countries.)
3) Commander in Chief
A. The President is in charge (at the top) of the army, navy, air force, marines, and coast
guard.
B. Congress declares war but the president orders the soldiers to travel to different places.
a. Presidents can send in troops without Congress declaring war
4) Legislative Leader
A. The President proposes legislatives to Congress.
a. Congress is the only branch allowed to consider bills.
b. The President must conduct speeches and meet with representatives and
senators to try to persuade them to side with the legislative he is trying to get
passed.
c. Congress members can serve longer than the President, so therefore
congressional decisions usually take a longer amount of time.
5) Head of State
A. The President serves as the figurehead for our country.
a. The President must attend greetings of kings and queens, prime ministers, and
other foreign leaders.
b. The President attends ceremonial functions and gives medals to veterans and
soldiers.
6) Economic Leader
A. The President must deal with unemployment, rising prices, and high taxes.
B. The President must plan the Federal Governments Budget.
7) Party Leader
A. The President is the leader of the political party that he sides with.
a. The President must write speeches for those in his party running for office.
b. The President must help raise money for his political party.

The duties of the President include:
Veto, or reject, bills passed in Congress
Call Congress into special session
Serve as commander in chief of the armed forces
Receive leaders and other officials of foreign countries
Make treaties with other countries (with Senate approval)
Appoint heads of executive agencies federal court judges, ambassadors, and other top
government officials (also subject to Senate approval.)
Pardon or reduce the penalties against people convicted of federal crimes
To make sure laws are faithfully executed
