WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
The leading cause of death in Oklahoma is heart disease, and Oklahoma
has the third highest heart disease mortality rate in the nation.

The Oklahoma mortality rate due to diabetes is the fourth highest in the
nation at 26.9 deaths per 100,000 as compared to 20.8 per 100,000
nationally.

Half of Oklahomans eat less than 1 fruit per day, and 27% of Oklahomans
eat less than 1 vegetable per day.

Among Oklahoma adults, 28% report that they engage in no physical
activity, and the amount of physical activity that does occur decreases
with age.

Approximately 23.3% of Oklahomans smoke as compared to 19.6%
nationally. Smoking is also the leading cause of preventable death in
Oklahoma.
