Being informationally literate is a helpful tool when researching for topics. In the classroom, we
do not always know the information we want our students to learn. Therefore we must go online to find
more information to teach them. By going online, we have to be able to provide the proper citation and
explanations as to how the information is good enough to put in the classroom and what kind of
credentials it has.
As well with the 21
st
century it seems that some information is constantly being presented or
updated. Without the resource of knowing how to find the information we would be stuck teaching
outdated materials that are no longer relevant to our students. By knowing how to search the World
Wide Web, we will be able to provide the newest materials to our students with the most updated
information on what is going on in the world around them.

There is relevance in the relation of information literacy to the ISTE standards as the standards
want to always be reflecting todays world. Without being able to find information that is new, we
would not be able to provide the information that is latest for the students to learn. The standards want
the students to be learning the newest information that is relevant to them. Without being
informationally literate, the newest information would not be able to be found.

There is a lot of relevance to plagiarism and copyright. Teaching about these topics as well is
very important. As we work towards being able to update our information even more, we must keep in
mind that it is unknown as to who will update the information. By teaching our students about
plagiarism and copyright, we can ensure they will have the knowledge and know how to properly write
your own thoughts but include works from other writers. As our students grow older, they may be the
one updating the information, so we should ensure they understand the proper use of the information
they have available to them.
As we approach new times in the world, the availability of new information is very important.
New technologies have entered our era and increased the amount of information that is available to us.
As technology continues to increase, we must have availability to access the information that is newly
shared to the public. Without being informationally literate, we cannot ensure that we know the newest
information. As teachers, we have to be positive that we are giving students the information that they
will need to live in their world as well as make it a better place.
