Research and Development

Were a team of 200+ that is responsible for the science behind our great products. There are two
main components in this group Research & Development and Global Quality & Regulatory.
We develop new food (like our lunch items), delicious beverages, and innovative brewing equipment.
We drive the innovation behind new product ideas (like the Verismo System), conduct the
research and testing of the products (often sharing these new products first with our partners here at
the Support Center), and make adjustments until the product is ready to take to market.
We also play a key role in shaping the future growth of Starbucks as we continue to expand into new
outlets and countries. As a member of our team, you will make an impact by ensuring our customers
(globally) have a world-class experience with our products.
Starbucks Strategic Capabilities
Threshold resources for Starbucks operations in the UK consist of venues, basic coffee
machine, tables, cups, human resources etc. However, threshold resources would not
suffice in terms of enabling Starbucks to survive the competition, and therefore, Starbucks
utilises a set of distinctive resources in UK market that include effective design of shops, a
wide range of fresh coffee and other products, customer loyalty card, as well as,
sophisticated Verismo technology.
Likewise, threshold competencies for Starbucks may consist of selling coffee drinks and
food prepared through basic processes to customers in the most basic manner.
