Character Word: Responsibility
We have had another busy week with lots of learning!
We have continued to learn about fractions. This year, with the Missouri Learning
Standards, we are digging deeper than ever before. We have learned about equiva-
lent fractions and reducing fractions to the lowest terms. We are also adding and
subtracting fractions, which could create mixed numbers. Learning about and master-
ing fractions is much easier for students if they know their multiplication facts. I
strongly encourage your child to practice multiplication facts at home; even for a few
minutes each evening.
In reading we continued to look at nonfiction text features and also context clues to
help us understand the meaning of unknown words.
In social studies we finished learning about the regions of Missouri. Next week we
will be switching back to science to learn about rocks. If you happen to have an extra
egg carton at home, please save it for a project next week.
Schools pictures will be coming home today. If your child did not bring an order form
and money, they still have a chance to order on the form they are bringing home.
Grandparents Day for fourth grade will be this Monday, September 29th from 9-
9:50am. We will begin in the FEMA gym.
We have added several new assignments to the portfolio section of the SOAR
binder. Please look through these with your child, but leave the assignments in the
portfolio section. There are also some assignments in their red take home folder
(also located in the SOAR binder), these assignments can stay at home. We will be
adding to our portfolios and bringing home graded assignments each Friday. We
have discovered some days we run out of time during the week and have now set
aside specific time on Friday to pass back papers and add to their portfolios.
Please be on the look out for an email to sign up online for a Parent Teacher Con-
ference time.

Student Response:
This week I found out that my prediction is coming true because Rotten Willy
and UpChuck are becoming friends. I can tell they are building a relationship
because UpChuck is asking Willy all kinds of questions about college, and Willy
is taking the time to share with him. I think this friendship will continue to
grow. I am also wondering if something is going to happen to Tom. The book
makes me wonder this because it keeps referring to the fact that Tom and
UpChuck will be friends FOREVER I am really enjoying this book. It is funny
and the author does a good job of helping me see the story in my head. I cant
wait to find out what happens next!
