1. What did the museum teach you about Native American tribes?
In the museum I learned many things about the different Native American tribes. The tribes I learned about were the Sioux, the Iroquois, the Seminole and my tribe, the Wampanoag. From visiting the Sioux I learned that they were taught to believe that war was just a little game and it wasnt that serious. I also learned that the main animal that the Sioux hunted was the buffalo. Lastly I learned that the Sioux lived in North and South Dakota. I learned from the Iroquois station that they had a very big population of 51,000 people and that 1% of Native American is made up of the Iroquois. Also, I learned that they were known as the people of the longhouse. The final tribe I learned about was the Seminole. I learned that they lived in Florida and that the first war they had lasted for 2 years! I also learned from this group that they hunted; fish, buffalo, alligators. They did not only hunt alligators, but they also wrestled them! I learned a lot of cool and interesting facts about the different Native America tribes.
2. Choose one of the tribes that you observed. How does this tribe compare to the tribe that you studied? What is similar between this tribe and your tribe? What is different?
A tribe that I thought had many similarities and differences to my tribe the Wampanoag was the Seminole. Some things that were similar were both tribes spoke two languages. The Seminole spoke English and Muscogee and the Wampanoag spoke English and Wampanoag. Another thing both tribes had in common was the fact that they were both weakened by diseases that English settlers brought to their land, which also decreased both tribes population. One last similarity was that both the Wampanoag and the Seminole had many acres of land (Wampanoag= 481 acres, Seminole= 540 acres). While both these tribes may be very similar they also had many differences. For example, they lived in different places. The Wampanoag lived in Massachusetts while the Seminole lived in Florida. Another difference was the Seminole had been in a war that lasted 2 years (1816 1818) while Wampanoag had never been in a war that lasted many years, there was only one war that they had faced, and it ended in a result to the death of many English men. In the end both tribes have many similarities along with many differences.
