REPRESSEDHISTORYOFTHEUPRISINGERAINSERBIA
At the end of the 18th and at the beginning of 19th century, Turkish Empire entered the
periodofcrisesandturmoil.Safetyofthecivilianinhabitantswasindangerbecauseofviolence
of Turk Janissaries. These were the circumstances followed by uprisings in Serbia. The
backgroundofthesehappeningswasstoriesaboutwomenwhowerevictimsofvariousformsof
physical and sexual violence. Anarchy was the cause of diminishing of sexual morality, and
socialrelationsregulatedbycustomsweredisturbed.Reviewandanalysisofdifferentformsof
violence and sexual behaviour connected with social changes and political situation in the
Belgradepashadomatthebeginning ofthe19th centuryhavebeenpresented.
