Teddy Bear Mummy Research Report

Who were key Egyptian pharaohs and what were their major accomplishments? How were
Egypts economic, social, and political levels structured?

Students will mummify a teddy bear in class, mimicking the process the ancient Egyptians used
to mummify their pharaohs. While they are working on the teddy bear mummification in class,
students are responsible for researching a pharaoh at home and writing a research report.

STEP 1: Topic
Choose your pharaoh from the list below:
- Khufu
- Senusret I
- Hatshepsut
- Ramses II
- Thutmose III
- Akenaten
- King Tut (Tutankhamun)

Please note that if you choose to write about a pharaoh other than the four listed above, you will
be responsible for your own research and finding credible sources.





STEP 2: Cover Page
- Design a fully colored cover page for your report that includes at least four colors, a title, and
your name. Ideas for your cover page include: an illustration of your pharaoh or your pharaohs
accomplishments, map of Egypt, illustration of daily life or the social classes of Egypt, et cetera.
Your cover page should have no white space and should be outlined in sharpie, marker, or colored
pencil. No pencil lines should be visible.

STEP 3: Pharaoh Description
In four paragraphs, write about the following:
- Who was your pharaoh? What qualities and characteristics did he/she possess? Define
the term pharaoh in your response.
- Provide a description of your pharaohs accomplishments. Include at least three specific
facts about your pharaoh.
- How was your pharaoh similar or different from another ancient Egyptian pharaoh?
- Describe Egypts culture and social classes at the time of your pharaoh.

STEP 4: Burial Practices
- Describe the process your pharaoh underwent to become a mummy.
- Then in one paragraph, answer the following question: what was the impact of the
Egyptian religious belief system on daily life, particularly burial practices?

STEP 5: Conclusion
- Why is your pharaoh significant? Why do the ancient Egyptian pharaohs have lasting
significance?
- Reflect on the research process: what did you find difficult or challenging; what part was
simple or engaging; what were your successes?
