In a balanced diet, you are required to have 3 servings of

dairy a day. The servings of food you have daily have an


impact on your health. You need to eat a range of foods to
get all the nutrients your body needs. Eatng the right
balance of foods from these groups will make sure your
body gets all it needs to stay healthy. Milk and dairy
Delicious Dairy
The balance of dairy may vary for a sportsper-
son as they may need to consume more phos-
phorous for energy release, magnesium for
muscle functon, protein for growth and re-
pair, Vitamin C for formaton of healthy con-
nectve tssue, and Iodine for regulaton of the
bodys rate of metabolism (how quickly the
body burns energy and the rate of growth). It
is important for a sportsperson to consume
these nutrients so that they can have a beter
chance to perform to their full potental and
recover afer performance.

The balance of dairy might vary for an infant because in the frst six months of life infants
will only consume milk. An infants balance of dairy will be increase as it is the only
source of food it is able to consume at this young age. Also, this assists the rapid growth
of infants by providing them with calcium which helps to build strong bones,
phosphorous for energy release, vitamin B12 for producton of healthy cells, vitamin A
for good eyesight and immune functon, and folate for producton of healthy cells. From
six months of age to around eighteen months of age an infant is introduced to more
dairy sources such as yogurt, but the balance of dairy in their diet is reduced as they are

The balance of dairy might vary for a teenager because they may need to
consume larger amounts in order for them to reach their full growth poten-
tal (based on their genetc inheritance). Higher levels of Vitamin A may need
to be consumed (which can be found in dairy products) to have a healthy and
strong immune system that enables them to feel energetc and help fght
illness and prevent nutritonal defciencies and diet related diseases during
youth, and Protein for growth and repair. With this being said, youth should-
nt consume too much over the recommend daily intake of dairy.

In our survey, we asked the Der-
rinallum P-12 College year 9 & 10
class multple questons on dairy.
These questons included the
recommended daily serves of
nutrients, nutrients commonly
found and not commonly found
in dairy products, the benefts of
dairy products, and how dairy
products assist your body. The
outcome of this survey, showed
that Derrinallum year 9 & 10
class met the average level of
knowledge on dairy products.
A recent US study has reported that
children who avoid milk tend to be
fater and unhealthier than children
who drink milk. This may be because
milk is being replaced by high energy
drinks such as fruit juice or sof
drinks.
