How do I refer someone to the gifted
program and what happens from there?
If someone (a teacher, parent, principal, counselor, peer, )
believes that a student should be considered for the program,
their name should be turned into the GT teacher via email or the
GT website (under: parents: identification: nomination form).
Their name is placed on an ongoing referral list for testing in the
spring.
However, if the evidence is weak and does not favor a case based
on Bauxites definition of giftedness, the data is discussed with
the person referring to decide whether or not to continue. From
there, the referral is documented for future reference as evidence
if the decision is made not to continue in the best interest of the
child.

Who is/are the identifier(s)?
The identification committee consists of:
- A building principal
- A counselor
- At least 2 or 3 teachers (GT certified if possible)
- GT coordinator (in the case of a tie)

After IdentificationCan a Student
be kicked out of GT?
Students can not be casually thrown out of GT for behavior
issues. It is a required service (once they are identified) just the
same as special education.
However, if a teacher has concerns about academic performance
or if grades regress consistently, a student can ultimately be put
on probation until the issues are corrected.
A student can be exited from the program after regression
continues past probation if it is in the best interest of the
student.
Of course, each of these issues involves the parents at each level
and follows district policy.
