Son-in-Law to Lord Perumal

Today is the Kadva Chauth fast (Saturday, October 11, 2014) and is extra special in that in one fast
you please three gods. This fast is observed by mainly (but not exclusively) married North Indian
women for the long and happy life of their husbands and is glorified in many Bollywood movies. But
back to the hat-trick of god-pleasing possible today:
Today is the last Saturday of the Tamil Month Puratasi and thus is doubly close to the heart of the
Patron God of the richest Hindu temple and second richest place of worship Tirupatis Lord Balaji or
Perumal depending on whether you are a north Indian or south Indian worshipper. A form of the
Divine Protector Lord Vishnu, Perumal is closely associated to Lord Muruga as well.
Many Tamil seers refer to Lord Subramanya as Lord Perumals son-in-law. According to many myths
the warrior Gods second wife the goddess Valli is the daughter of divine parents Lord Vishnu and
Goddess Lakshmi (goddess of wealth) - fostered by the southern hunter king.
Even in the Bhagwad Gita Lord Krishna tells Arjuna that he is the warrior God Subramanya.

Today is the fourth day after the full moon chathurthi in the lunar cycle a day in the waning cycle
close to Lord Karthikeyas sibling Lord Vinayaka the destroyer of hurdles. This day is celebrated
every month as Sankatahara (meaning ending of problems) Chaturthi as it is believed worship and
fasting in the name of Lord Ganesha will end the devotees problems.
And finally as todays star is Krithika (see THE STORIES OF LORD KATHIKEYA: Birth of Lord

great significance to the god who is the foster son to the divine nymphs who form the Pleiades
constellation known as the Krithigai or Karthikeya Kanyas.
Thus worship today will gain one the grace of three powerful and popular gods of the Hindu
pantheon Perumal/Balaji, Vinayaka, & Karthikeya.
