Bienvenidos!
Hola, bienvenidos a la clase de espaol! Spanish is an interesting and beautiful language that is also a part of many cultures throughout the world including right here in the United States. I am excited to work with you this school year while we learn about a variety of these cultures and how Spanish relates to them.
Cmo ser un estudiante exitoso?
Learning any language is a process of trial and error, memorization, and collaboration. It takes a lot of practice both inside and outside of the classroom. In order to successfully learn Spanish in this class, it is necessary to actively participate as much as possible. By talking to your peers, reading aloud, and practicing vocabulary, you will become more familiar with the language, its sounds, and how to communicate. Finally, making mistakes is a part of learning a language. Through these mistakes we learn to adjust our language, learn new vocabulary,
Expectaciones
Participation is essential to language learning. Arriving on time and ready to work, volunteering to speak in class or answer questions, only speaking in Spanish, and remaining on task will help the class run smoothly. However, showing up unprepared/late, being disruptive, and using electronics in class will negatively impact the class as a whole. In addition to coming to class prepared, on time, and focused, I expect everyone to treat each other with respect. Our classroom is a safe space where everyone should feel they can express their ideas, practice speaking in Spanish, and make mistakes without worrying about negative repercussions from their peers or myself.
Asistencia
All work is expected to be handed in on the due date. Late work may be handed in for partial credit but all late work for the unit is due by the day of the chapter test/assessment. Students with absences may have as many days as they were gone to turn in homework for full credit (ex. If a student is absent on Monday and Tuesday, they may have two days, until Thursday, to turn missed work from either day).
Materiales
Please bring materials to class by Monday Sept ember 8. ! Spiral bound one subject notebook (not a 3 ring binder) ! 2 standard size chisel or bullet tip whiteboard pens Las notas
Grades will be based on completion of listening, reading, speaking, and writing assignments and assessments, both formative and summative. Integridad acadmica
Students are expected to do their own work. Copying homework from someone else, or allowing them to copy from you will result in a zero for both students. Working together is acceptable and encouraged between classmates due to the collaborative nature of language learning. There will be many opportunities in class to discuss and work in groups, however, copying from another student or an outside source such as the Internet, or comparing answers on a test is dishonest and unacceptable.
Traductor vs. Diccionario
Using a Spanish dictionary (online or book form) is encouraged in order to learn new vocabulary and aid the learning process. Dictionaries can be very helpful when looking for a singular word or phrase, or whether a word is masculine or feminine. However, it is important to note that using an online translator for paragraphs or even sentences is not the same as a dictionary. Translators make many mistakes and it is easy to tell when students have used a translator from English to Spanish. They will not help you advance in Spanish and will often result in a low grade due to the poor translating skills. Please keep this is mind as you do homework and projects.
Learning another language is a fun experience that I am excited to share with you this year. If you need to talk to me about anything please dont hesitate to send me an email or set up a meeting!
