Statement of problem: In spite of t+e enormous resources available in t+e University library to
support academic and researc+ 0ork( t+ere is lo0 patronage by students 0+o rarely register nor
rene0 t+eir registration 0it+ t+e .ibrary,
Objective: +e ob5ective of t+e study 0as to examine t+e use of t+e University of Calabar library
for researc+ by students of t+e University,
Methodology: +e study adopts a descriptive researc+ design based on survey, ;ot+ primary and
secondary data 0ere used, A stratified random sampling procedure 0as employed to select &"""
respondents and administered 0it+ <uestionnaires, =imple fre<uencies and percentages 0ere
used for data analysis,
Results: Findings revealed t+at for registration( only &#,"> 0ere registered users and only &",">
of registered users rene0ed t+eir registration, In terms of library visit( 4',"> visited t+e library(
out of 0+ic+ only &',"> visited for researc+ purposes( ot+ers for social net0orking, ?a5ority
-2',">/ 0ere not a0are of t+e various electronic7online resources in t+e library, Unsatisfactory
services -3',">/( inade<uate po0er supply -$',">/ and poor Internet connectivity -$',">/ 0ere
t+e ma5or constraints to library use,
onclusion: +ere is lo0 patronage of Unical library by students and staff of t+e University,
+us( registration and or rene0al 0it+ t+e library s+ould be a compulsory condition for all
students ot+er0ise( no graduation as in 8== courses,
