Making activity: birth-2 learning opportunity

Object fun! In this activity, you are required to collect any and all objects that can be painted on
and you dont mind getting paint on, such as corks, leaves from the backyard, natural objects,
recyclable objects, empty cans of drink, basically anything with a surface to create memorable and
creative artwork using paint!
Materials:
Any and all objects
Butcher paper
Pegs
Wire line
At least two different colours of paint
Instructions:
1. Collect different objects.
2. Prepare a table with butcher paper covering the entire surface as well as placing butcher
paper on the floor. Hold on to some of this paper for the children to do their masterpieces
on!
3. Spread collected objects all over the table.
4. Pour paint into small shallow tubs.
5. Place around the tubs around the table ( make sure there at least two colour)
6. Allow the children to use any of the objects, they are expected to dip any objects into the
pain using as many objects and as many colours as they wish! They can also use their fingers
and hands, as this activity is to discover the creativity of the child and is an open ended task.
7. Hang out the artwork to dry on a line with pegs.
8. Wash all the objects so they can be used over and over again!

This can be achieved by the child going out into the environment that surrounds them allowing them
to explore and broaden their understanding of their surroundings.


Responding activity: birth- 2 learning opportunity
Object fun talk The children are required to collect any objects that may seem of interest to them
that they wish to use in the making activity these objects can vary from recyclable items, to toys or
items that they have brought from home that their parents dont mind getting paint on.
The activity leader will ask each child a simple question such as what colour is this object? or is this
object special to you? this gives the child the opportunity to show interest in what they are creating
by stating why they chose it, in a simple way.
Materials
A tub or bag where the children can place items that they have selected.
Instructions:
1. Collect numerous differing objects and place them onto a table (or give children the
opportunity to collect objects from home).
2. Ask each child a simple question that allows them to respond, relating to the objects that
they have brought into the classroom.

This outcome is achieved whilst the children explore their environment by collecting any objects hat
inspire them including natural objects such as flowers, sticks and rocks.
