1 Content and teaching strategies of the teaching area


Descriptor Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concepts substance and structure content and teaching strategies of the
teaching area develop engaging teaching activities.
Rationale As teaching entails helping others learn understanding what is to be taught is a central requirement of teaching. The many tasks
of teaching, such as selecting worthwhile learning activities, giving helpful explanations, asking productive questions, and
evaluating students' learning, all depend on the teacher's understanding of what it is that students are to learn.

My knowledge of and ability to teach my methods areas of Humanities and LOTE: Japanese is demonstrated by having
completed a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Sociology, Co-majoring in Advanced Japanese. (See attached degree and transcript)

By the completion of Graduate Diploma In Secondary Studies course, I will be able to:
1. Critically examine historical and contemporary issues in post-primary education at a local, national and international level;
2. Review different pedagogical theories and academic concepts of teaching that support the diversity of learners found in
post primary educational settings;
3. Plan, implement and evaluate a range of educational practices;
4. Analyse the efficacy of classroom teaching practices through reflective discussion that draws upon pedagogical theories;
5. Employ advanced skills in research to work with educational stakeholders in educational settings;
6. Design, conduct and report educational inquiry / research;
7. Apply knowledge and skills within classrooms and the school community to develop inclusive cultures of learning where all
school students are supported to achieve;
8. Communicate clearly and effectively through presentations and interactive activities, key concepts that related to the
graduate's specialist teaching area. (see attached Academic transcript)

Having a whole school experience during my practicum facilitated in my knowing and understanding of the concepts, substance,
structure, content and teaching strategies applicable to all teaching areas. This further developed my ability to create engaging
teaching activities.
Allan attended staff meetings (CAT groups, Year level Well-being and Campus/college metting) as well as Parent Teacher
interviews. He also attended Personal Development sessions over the course fo the Professional learning week,.. J.Damen
Mentor- Williamstown Highschool
Allan attended yard duty, morning briefings, college whole school meetings, middle years meetings and was a helpful
