Instant Activity:
Students should
remain on their
squad spots but now
must stand up. We
are going to review a
few of the terms we
used in the game
Fish Gobbler from
last week. Go over:
captains dance, mess
hall, captains
coming, iceberg, and
scrub the deck.

Iceberg

Have students line up

on the thick black line
of the gym facing the
black and brown exit
doors. The line closest
to the bathroom is the
front of the boat and
the thick black line
near the brown and
black doors is the back
of the boat.

Once we have
completed the set
induction and instant
activity, it is time for
students to begin
playing Fish
Gobbler.
Activity: FISH
GOBBLER:
Students must listen
to the teacher in
order to stay on the
boat! The teacher is
the Captain and all
students must do
what the Captain
says! Remember
when we are
running, we must
have our opposite
knees and elbows
up! (Utilization
Phase) Have students
begin the game on
the front of the
boat.

~ Fish Gobblers
x- students
All students are
participating in this
activity, which
increases activity time.

Remind students to
watch where they
are running so they
do not bump into
anyone.

When the fish

gobblers are tagging
their classmates,
make sure they are
using the fish to
lightly tag and not
using the fish to
smack their
classmates.

for the terms* If a

student is running
the wrong way, gets
gobbled up by the
fish, or is the last
person to complete
the term, then they
have to go over to
the dock and grab
a drink of water if
they would like.
They key to the
game is to listen to
the teacher so you do
not get out and to
work on social skills
to stay in the game.
Now remember in
order to be safe from
the Fish Gobblers,
you must lay on your
stomach and be
touching at least one
other person! For
example three people
can be lying on their
stomachs touching
hands and they
would be safe from
the Fish Gobbler.
Begin with the first
few terms listed on
the attached sheet,
and as the game
progresses, add more
terms.

Depending on time,
you could play up to
three rounds of Fish

important to
encourage students
throughout the lesson
and to emphasize fun
and proper running
form.

Front of the gym

Before the review,

have students return
to the middle black
circle and take a seat
to debrief. Ask the
students what
strategies were
important in being
successful in the
game of fish gobbler.
Have students turn
and talk with a
partner and then ask
each group what
their answers were.

Have students
sitting in middle
circle for discussion.

Closure: Have
students return the
fish to the bag and
have them return to
their squad spots.
Allow students to
grab a drink of water
and begin closure
once students are all
seated. In the game,
Fish Gobbler we
acted out many
movements but also
ran a lot. What is the
proper running form?
Why should we
practice proper
running form?

Preview
Students, you all did a wonderful job working with each other, listening
to my directions, and played the game of Fish Gobbler safely and
correctly. Next week we are going to play more playground games!

5.) Reflection:
Strengths- After teaching the lesson, I believe it went fairly well. Ms. Snyder said I
did a great job reviewing the terms and explaining the game to the class. She also said
that I paced each game well and added suspense so all the students were paying
attention. I made sure the students were active for the majority of the class. The
students seemed to have a lot of fun and were pretty tired at the end of class.
Improvements- The next time I teach this lesson, I would like to give every student
the opportunity to be a Fish Gobbler. I believe most students were Fish Gobblers at

one point of the game; however, I would like to give every student the opportunity to
be a Fish Gobbler.
Insights- Looking back onto this lesson, I realized how physically demanding and
cognitively demanding this game was. But most importantly, after reviewing it with
the students they realized that the best way to stay in a game was to find just any
classmate for the different activities.
