Tribal Prayers.

watch them go.

watch them fly by.
two pair a dozen, a thousand
for each loss. across jungle marshes.
damp voodoo marches. like hearts beating
fear, feet stomp heavy rhythms. hand cymbal
thighs. crash teeth upon teeth, tongues upon lips.
high, blue above black hair straw. like warring whales
wailing, the hot earth pulsates. heart drums escalate. ancient
hands scribe glyphs, like diesel fire river stains. tree speak and bird
speak. frog song and willow chatter. like twilights eye above, the cold moon
shines. tidal spells, love charms. ungracious widows weave dolls. bless sharp steel.
across jungle marshes cries of tribal hearts echo. violins fade at sunrise. a seed planted
in twilight that it may arise in dawn.
