WELCOME TO

4TH GRADE

Happy First Day of School!

About the Teacher
Hello students and parents! I am so happy to
be back in school and excited for our new
school year together. My name is Ms. Kaitlin
LaRiviere and I will be your childs fourth grade
teacher.

My Goals for the Students

Collaborate and grow with their peers!

Always take others perspectives into

account!

Become lifelong learners!

Learn to love literature & reading!

Appreciate the arts! (music, drama, art,

dance)

Be open to anything!

This is my first year teaching at Sand Pine

Elementary school. I just graduated from
University of South Florida this spring but I
have been interning here at Sand Pine for
about two years now. I always knew I wanted to
be a teacher because I enjoy working with
children and being the one who is able to
provide them with new knowledge.

My Management Style

I live in Tampa, Florida with my fianc and

my two Chihuahuas. I love spending time with
them and taking my puppies to the dog park. I
also love to go to the beach and ride my bike
along nature trails. I play a lot of different
musical instruments, so music will always be a
part of our classroom. I look forward to
getting to know all of you and building our
classroom together!

In our class, I believe that there should be a

collaborative effort from the students and
teacher when it comes to classroom
management. At the beginning of the year, we
discuss the importance of class rules and the
students come up with the rules as a group.
This makes the rules more meaningful for the
students and they are more likely to respect
the rules as well.
I also do not believe in clip or behavior
charts. In our class, we use a Super Improver
Wall where each student name is displayed and
they can earn a star when they improve or are
caught going the extra mile. I also use a system
of tickets where the students may earn a
ticket when they follow the rules or help a
friend in need. At the end of the week, I pull
tickets and the students can get a chance to
win extra free play, eat lunch with a teacher,
wear socks in class, etc.

Parents as Educators
I strongly believe that learning takes
place not only in the classroom, but at home
too. In order for our students to become
lifelong learners, they will need the support
from you!
A few of the suggestions I have for
learning at home are to check their planner
and take home folder daily. This allows you
to be informed to what we are learning
about in class. I also love to see when
parents read with their children and have
discussions about what the child is
currently reading. This helps me accomplish
one of my goals: Instill a love for reading! I
meet with each student one a week to set
reading goals for the student. It is great
to see the parent work with the student at
home on their goals in order to improve and
become successful readers.
Another great thing to do at home with
your child is to check the SPES website
and look for the extra resources available.
We upload extra math, science and social
studies practice videos and games for the
students to use at home.
