ABSTRACT

Chilli pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) is one of the plants that have color
pigments that can be used as a natural dye . In this research through the optimum
determination conditions of the red peppers dye (Capsicum annuum L.) to do
some testing phases. The first steps is the optimization of solvent by using some
solvents with the different of polarity level such as distilled water, ethyl acetate
and n - hexane. The second step is the optimization of extraction based on the time
difference extraction, ie extraction for 10 minutes and 3x24 hours. The third step
is optimization dyes do on pH with pH variation under acidic conditions (pH4),
neutral (pH7) and alkali (pH10). The fourth step of the optimization of the dye
conducted at a temperature of 25oC, 30oC, 40oC, 50oC, 60oC, 70oC. All steps were
tested using UV-Vis spectrophotometer seeing by the highest absorbance of each
test. Based on the results of the research, the optimum conditions for extracting
the dye from red chilli pappers is using ethyl acetate solvent, extraction for 10 min
at pH 4 and temperature of 50oC.
