December 2014

Magnify the Lord with me! Psalm 34:3

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a

census should be taken of the entire Roman world.
(Luke 2:1)
In those days. In those days of long ago when
our story unfolds to a young maiden girl, a betrothed
man, and shepherds in the fields. And we have a
pregnant woman who feels her child leap when in the
presence of the maiden. Elizabeth was filled with the
Holy Spirit and she exclaimed Blessed are you among
women, and blessed is the child you will bear! We
begin this journey toward Jerusalem again. In those
days or in these days? We are again on the journey
which means we take time to reflect, wonder,
question, and listen for God to speak into our lives.
Some of us have been asking questions for a very long
time. Some of us dont even bother to ask anymore.
But this is the season where we can all join together in
our waiting for the arrival of the Christ child.
For some this is a difficult time when it is the
reminder of what you know longer have. A time of
sorrow for those who will not be joining you in
celebration. We embrace you and your loss. Please join
us for our Blue Christmas service on December 21.
There is more information in the article in the
newsletter.
During Advent our little members will collect
the offering of the loose coins for Ember Hope
Youthville. Children reaching out to help children.
We kick of Advent with the theme Its a
Wonderful Life! This will be our theme throughout
Advent and you wont want to miss a single Sunday. Be
prepared for surprises as we explore the season
through the holiday favor movie. Invite your friends
and family as we welcome all to our time together.
Communion will be offered on December 7. All are
invited.
December 7 will be Hugoton United Methodist
Church Day! We will have the joy of having the cantata
performed during worship. Steve and I invite all to the
parsonage open house from 2-4 p.m. Have some
cookies and coffee before heading to the church to see
the Live Nativity by our Senior High Youth. Finish your
day with the Praise!Kids program at 5:30 p.m.
Wishing you and yours the Love of this season
to be present every day in every way. Grace and peace
to you,
Pastor Jo Mead

Thank you for your generous gifting of loose coins in

November with one more Sunday to add we expect to
meet our goal of $300.00. The offering will be used for
the Angel Tree. The angel tree will provide gifts for
children in unique circumstance in our community.

Jr. UMYF Announcements

December 17th Jr. High UMYF will have a white
elephant gift exchange. A white elephant gift
exchange is a lighthearted way to fellowship with
one another. White elephant gifts are traditionally
"presents" that are considered extremely tacky or
that do not fit the tastes of the recipient. Everyone
please bring one wrapped "gift" and we will have a
randomized gift for everyone!
Helping Hands

Be sure to ask the Sr. UMYF for help with yard work,
cleaning, or hauling items to the dump. We appreciate
your support throughout the year so let us give back to
you. Call Sonja at 544-4459.

needs. The time will be open to come and go as your

Away from home, cafeteria food, little sleep, hard classes and final exams; oh the stress!
We at Hugoton United Methodist Church want to remind our college students of the scripture
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
We are sending a care package to each of our young college students who may need a little boost to
get through this time of final exams. Possible items to be included are; a note of encouragement, a
treat, or trinket to evoke a smile. If you can provide something to the care package, please have it at the
church by Wednesday, Dec. 3rd. The boxes will be mailed out Dec. 4th. Thank you.
