Introduction
How reckless are SME students? This was the main question we asked
ourselves in class. In this assignment we made a survey about the possible
risks which students can be confronted with in daily life. In order to find an
appropriate answer, we prepared a questionnaire of 15 questions and asked
these questions to 15 students of our class. This group consisted of 11 men
and 4 women. The main idea was to ask our fellow students some questions
to find out how risky their live is. We focused on several areas of their life to
have a global view of the different risks. We divided the answers of the male
and female students to discover some differences. Afterwards we assembled
the answers in graphs. To evaluate the answers we used the method of
multiple-choice. In our report we will discuss the different aspects of the
survey and we will give attention to the most striking differences between
men and women.

Findings
The questions focused on different areas. We evaluated transportation,
vacation, sports, health, sex and drugs.

health
The first section we investigated is health. 50% of our female fellow students
smoke cigarettes. This can be a possible threat for their personal health,
because of the risk of getting illnesses like long cancer rises. Only 9% of the

male students smoke cigarettes. The reason for this is the fact that most of
the male students practice sports.

More than half of the male students consume more than 20 glasses of alcohol
each week and remarkable is that every female student consumes at least 20
glasses. Scientists say that you have a drinking problem when youre drinking
5 glasses a week. We assume its just a temporary problem because every
student wants to enjoy their time at university and the drinking habits will
fade away when they will finish their studies and have a job.

Another criterion was food habits. We asked the students if they think they
have a healthy food pattern. 65% of the males describe their food
consummation as average. We guess that the male students are not worried
about their food pattern and assume that this is the standard. But experience
shows us that students dont have a healthy food pattern at all. 50% of the
girls indicate their food pattern as bad. This is rather disturbing.

The following graphs show us something disturbing. Despite the fact that the
female students smoke, drink a lot of glasses alcohol a week and have a bad
food pattern, they still think they have a good health condition. We are likely
to assign this to the fact that they are still young and this is temporarily and
will change when they are graduated.

transportation
Our second area of investigation is transport. We investigated this because moving from one place to
another can hold many risks. Therefore we wanted to know how our fellow students move around.

Approximately 1/2 of the students come by car. Because of the very young age and the lack
of experience this can hold many risks. No girl comes to school by bike.

The
next
fact is
really
frightening and alarming. Only 18% of the male students have never driven a car when they
were drunk. 27% do it even often. The female students are more responsible in this matter.
50% did it once.
This can be the explanation for the following graph. 45% of the male students had a car
accident. In comparison to the girls who had never had an accident.

82% of the male students are against a driver license based on penalty points, while all the
female students are pro. This states the fact that the male students are more reckless than
the female students.

sex and illegal drugs

Our third category is sex and drugs. Drugs are very unhealthy and dangerous for the
functioning of the body. It will affect your choices and therefore people will take more risks.

Only 9% of the male students has never used drugs before. This means that drugs are well
introduced in the life of students. On the other hand 65% only did use drugs once to feel
what it does with the body.

73% has unprotected sex and is taken the risk to receive a STD or becoming a dad. The
female students are very protective when it comes to pregnancy prevention, but not when it
comes to STDs.

activities
Practicing hobbies, going out with friends or just going on vacation. It all holds risks.
We often hear the news that somebody was robbed or aggressed in Ghent. So we asked the
question to our fellow students.

Only 9% of the male students had an incident. None of the girls had an incident. We assume
it is just the wrong moment and the wrong time. Bad luck.

82% of the male students have been injured during sports, while none of the girls have been
injured. A possible reason is the fact that the male students practise more contact sports
than girls do.
On the other hand girls like to take more risks on vacation. 25% of the girls like an extreme
vacation. But in general 75% like to go on a not risky at all vacation.

Conclusion
After analyzing the results we can conclude that there are clear differences between men and
women. A man dares to take risks quicker than a woman. A woman will rather give more attention to
safety and security. We think the reason for that is determined by the nature of the sex. The results
of the questions about health shows a lot of similarities between men and women. Its no longer only
the woman that give attention to a healthy lifestyle.

Recommendations
We can see something very striking among the results of the survey, the fact that 7/10 of men will
not protect them when they have sex. This makes us a bit frightened because STDs can cause very
severe diseases that can influence your health for your whole life with the dead as worst case
scenario.
