Learning Strategies Lesson Planning form.
Objectives.
Procedure.
Preparation
T introduces the strategy using questions, e.g. if I want to talk to my
mother who is in another city. What kind of device can I use to
communicate to her? a book, a radio, or a cell phone. Then T connects the
previous task asking SS, when you do not know a word or the definition of
a word. What type of devices can you use to look vocabulary up? Why? Ss
discuss in pairs about the questions. T asks for possible answers.
Presentation
T explains how Ss can use the strategy by modeling, e.g. T shows a picture
of a beach searched on internet and looks up in dictionary characteristics
to describe that place. T says the sentence louder emphasizing the words
founded. T makes explicit the strategy, the purpose of it, and how Ss can
use it to learn new words or content.
Practice
T asks Ss to do a research project; Ss have to create a poster describing
three Chilean places of their choice. T explains the grammar aspect to make
the task and relates how the use of the strategy can help them to
accomplish the task by searching information on internet and looking up
word in dictionaries (adjectives and nouns) to create the descriptive
sentences. Finally Ss have to put the posters on room walls.
Evaluation
T talks and asks random Ss opinions about how the strategy worked for
them, then T gives Ss a questionnaire where they will answer questions
about how they felt working with the strategy and how effective it was. T
asks Ss discuss the answers comparing their own performance on the task.
T asks Ss in what other situation they would use the strategy.
QUESTIONNAIRE
12345-
Expansion
T gives the instance to Ss to analyze and discuss about the use and
implementation of the strategy. T gives Ss homework to discuss for the
next lesson; Ss have to bring other common instances in where they would
use the same strategy and how to apply it in their daily life.
