One would begin to wonder about the safety of our Police officers and their sense of
morals. However, one can only wonder such things if they too had a sense of morality.
Unfortunately, Officers die daily around the United States due to the lack of security in which
they are equipped. Can the people not say that this is, in a way, a neglect upon the Officers? I
am here to support this thought. Law Enforcement Officers can be better aided with modern
technology rather than outdated technology.

Those whom you have put your trust in, are constantly protecting your streets, and also
protecting your homes. So I will pose a simple question to you. How does it make you feel that
they have been underequipped for so long? They have not only been underequipped to protect,
but to solve and prevent crime as well. For a long period of time they had carried a 357 Magnum.
When an officer arrived on one of his traffic stops, the driver pulled a gun. The officer fired three
times and never missed. The driver of the motor vehicle did not die. However, the driver fired
one shot and killed the officer. The bullet went through the officers vest and through the officer
himself. After this, law enforcement upgraded to 9mm Berretta side-arms and thicker vests.

In earlier days, crime scenes were analyzed by the human eye, and cameras. This opened
up a door for error, or for an officer to miss a crucial piece of evidence. It could take weeks to
months for a simple murder to be solved. However, Police Departments have begun to upgrade
their analysis and forensic equipment. The latest equipment that I have heard of is called a
FARO 3D Laser Scanner. It creates a three dimensional, 360 image, of the entire crime scene. It
accesses every visual angle and equips officers with a vantage point that they wouldnt have if
they were standing in the crime scene. This can allow officers to access all evidence sighting
capabilities possible. This piece of equipment also decreases the possibility of officers missing
pieces of evidence.

The final, and as I believe, the coolest equipment update is aerial. Police used to use
helicopters for surveillance for a birds eye view of a situation. That was probably not the
greatest way to survey an area, because a huge loud helicopter overhead was quite obvious. Now,
Police Departments have started using advanced surveillance equipment. This equipment is
simply a remote controlled audio and video quad drone. They can remain in a motionless hover
in winds up to 30 miles per hour. By using this equipment officers can get a better view of an
area, while at the same time, not putting their officers in harms way.

Now that I have discussed a few of the recent advances in Police technology we can
make our conclusion. With all of the advances, our officers will be out of harms way and can
solve crimes quicker and more efficient. I believe that the more that they continue in their
advances, then the safer the people and our officers shall be. So, yet again, Law Enforcement
Officers can be better aided with modern technology rather than outdated technology.
