Thomas Boyer

Review:

Graphene: Status and Prospects, is a review paper on exactly what the title suggests. The
paper overviews many important properties of graphene, and what research is presently being done; it
also looks at important future prospects graphene has in both research fields and industry. The paper
starts with an overview of different ways of processing and growing graphene. A common reference is
to another paper titled, Large Area, Few-Layer Graphene Films on Arbitrary Substrates by Chemical
Vapor Deposition, which goes over different methods of chemically depositing graphene onto different
surfaces, particularly Ni films. Geim references this growth method in his paper several times as one of
the important modern methods of obtaining layers of graphene. He also uses this reference to discuss
the resistivity of graphene. Geim uses many references, 44 in fact, in his paper. He doesnt use full titles
for these references, but he does include at least the first mentioned author, the journal of publication,
the first page of the article/paper, and the date of publication. After Geim references many sources on
growing graphene, he continues to give information about quantum mechanical, structural, and
electronic properties of graphene. Greim puts much emphasis on the ability to chemically and
structurally alter graphene to access different electronic properties of graphene. Greim believes that
graphene will be able to make many fast and powerful electronic circuits and devices in the future.
Greim also belives that graphene opens up many areas of physics research, particularly in the fields of
condensed matter and quantum mechanics. Graphene is quite a hot topic in research, and review
papers such as the one by Greim are needed to keep up with all the new information being released. I

enjoyed how this review paper gave a broad modern overview of graphene, as both a physical structure
and as something that pushes areas of research and industry forward.
