Builders and Bulldozers

-In this game there is an even number of builders and bulldozers
(number the students off 1s and 2s)
-There will be various equipment set up around the gym (pylons,
bowling pins)

10 min

-When the teacher says go, it will be the job of the builders to
keep the equipment up while the bulldozers get to go around
knocking everything over
-Once one round has been played, let the students switch roles.

Learning Activity
#3

Cheese Movers
-Class will be divided into two teams. One team will start off as
the mice and the other team will start as the cats.
-The first runner in each mouse line will be given a piece of
cheese (I use a large yellow ball). The object of the game is for
the mice to move the cheese to the opposite end of the playing
area and return it to the next player in line.

Teacher Notes:
Assessments/
Differentiation

Each time the cheese is returned safely, the mice score 1

point. In order to stop the mice, the cats will be throwing the
balls, attempting to hit the mice below the shoulders.

If a mouse gets hit he will immediately sit down and hold

the cheese in the air. This is the signal for the next mouse in
his line to come and attempt to move the cheese. The mouse
that was hit must stay seated until all mice are hit, thereby
signifying the end of that round. At the end of the round the
mice and the cats will trade roles.

Cats can retrieve the balls by going into the play area, but
they cannot retrieve the ball for themselves. They must give it
to a fellow cat on the sideline and return to the sideline as well.

-Teamwork-observe: mice need to work together as well as the

cats
-Fair Play-observe: Are the cats throwing behind the sideline? Are
they retrieving the ball for others?

When we got to the gym today, there were no beanbags in the equipment
room. I should have checked beforehand! So instead we moved right into
the builders and bulldozers game. We didnt play this game for two long (2
rounds) because I could tell that the kids were getting rowdy playing this
Reflections from the game and many were not sticking to either being a builder or a bulldozer.
lesson
Next we played the Cheese Movers game. Many of the older students knew
how to play it already and offered to demonstrate for the grade 4s. This
game was a lot of fun for the students to play because it incorporated a lot
of the elements of their favorite games. There was running, dodging balls,
and a goal. They also worked as a team and cheered each other on.
