LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Students will:
1. Create rules in a collaborative manner.
2. Understand how to work effectively in groups

ASSESSMENTS

roles.
-I will observe if students finish the task given to
them effectively or not.

Performance assessment: Reporting the rules, and how the students work together as a group.

PROCEDURE
Introduction ( 5 min.):
Hook/Attention Grabber:
Assessment of Prior Knowledge: What group work have you done before? and What rules do you already have?
(2 min)
Expectations for Learning and Behaviour: Students will be expected to use the group roles. They will not interrupt
each other, and they will create their own rules for the classroom. (1 min)
Advance Organizer/Agenda: Agenda/organizer will be on the Smart board. I will explain to the students what the
activity will be. (1 min)
Transition to Body: Number students 1-4 in order to give them roles for their group. (1 min)

Body (15 min.):


Learning Activity #1: Creating the Rules: Students will be in group of four. In their groups of four the students
will create 2 very important rules they want to see in the classroom. (10 Min)
Assessments/Differentiation: Observational assessment of their group work. I will observe if they are utilizing their roles within the
group effectively.
Conversational: I will ask students if they feel like they are working well, or if they are not. I will ask them to remember their
thoughts for later.

Learning Activity #2: Collection of Rules: The students will share their rules one group at a time. I will write

them on the board and compile them later and then put them on display. (5 min)
Assessments/Differentiation: Assessment will be observational. Did they finish the two rules? Did the correct reporter tell me their
rules? Was work shared equally?

Closure ( 4 min.):
Consolidation/Assessment of Learning: What made this activity easy? What made this activity hard? Do you feel like
you worked together well? Why or why not? (Last two questions will be posed to each group. (2 min)
Feedback From Students: Clap your hands in you liked creating your own rules, touch your nose if you didnt. (1 min)
Feedback To Students: I will tell the students how I assessed their ability to work together, and suggest ways to
improve if they didnt do well. I will make sure I praise what they did right. (1 min)
Transition To Next Lesson: The next lesson will be a science lesson, and I will transition by asking them to put theirh
elath books away and get their science books.
