Organizing and Presenting Instruction

Demonstrates effective communicative skills.

Teaches in a creative, engaging, and appropriate

manner.

Engages students in thinking and problem

solving activities.

Presents information with poise and confidence.

Ensures a variety of teaching aids and materials

are included regularly in instruction.

Provides instruction that is appropriate for varied X

needs and styles of learners.

Your voice is still too soft.

Sitting in the back of the
room with some quiet side
conversation around me it
was hard to hear you
clearly.
Engagement suffers when
you
have
to
stop
frequently to re-group
yourself/class. Practicing
the lesson beforehand may
help reduce the amount of
regrouping
that
is
necessary.
Remember to use higher
level
questioning
techniques.
Lesson seemed a little
choppy. Try to engage
previous knowledge and
use that to transition from
activity to activity.
Perhaps allow students
time to read instructions
for market in wheat
simulation quietly before
you go over them. This
helps
streamline
the
process by allowing you

nicely
with
direct
instruction at the end of
class.
Maybe for the warm up
you project the document
on the smart board and
have students come up and
check which answer they
think
and
provide
justification for it. Also,
maybe use the smart
board to project the score
sheet for the wheat market
to help illustrate to
students how the price of

Classroom Management/Motivation
Provides specific feedback to students about
behavior.

There was A LOT of side

conversations during class
today.
You are very positive with
the students.
Nice job making sure
everyone was clear on
expectations for wheat

Your

Assessment

throughout the lesson.
Utilizes, when appropriate, pre- and postassessment to assess student growth &
improvement.
Utilizes a variety of assessment strategies
throughout instruction and bases assessments on
course goals/objectives and standards.

Your feedback to students

is always very positive.
Nice Job!
There was no pre/post
assessment performed.
Dont be afraid to explore
new

of
assessment!
A written
reflection about the wheat
simulation would have

been a good assessment tool

and provided you the
teacher feedback on how to
make the activity better.
The Q&A at the end was
good, a written reflection
might have encouraged
more student participation

Notes from Andy:

During your recap of the market in wheat simulation the back row where I was
sitting was chatting and not paying any attention. Dont tether yourself to the smart
boarduse proximity to help control students and their off task behavior. You did
a better job of this while giving your lecture.
You did a nice job with a complex lesson. Any time you run a comprehensive
activity in class there will be hiccups and you did a nice rolling with the mistakes
that were made in giving instructions and students trying to manipulate the market.
As you gain experience you will continue to hone your craft and find new and better
ways of making lessons better
When giving a lecture dont just dive right inmake a connection for the students
about where you have been, what you are doing today, and where you are going.
For example: we just experienced the creation of our own market. We have talked
about supply and demand, weve experienced a market in action, and now we are
going to talk about competition. Raise your hand if you are a competitive person.
(count number of students). Why is competition a good thing in your life? Then
make a connection between competition in their lives and competition in a market
economy. Another example, when introducing monopolies, ask how you get a
monopoly in the board game? Students will say, you have to own all the same
colors Correct! A monopoly is when one business own all of the market share in
a given market.
o Make sure when lecturing you know the material. Go over it the night
before think of relevant examples that augment the material.
o Go one bullet at a timestudents are so busy just trying to get it all written
down they are not hearing what you are saying. This will also alleviate you
having to wait at the end of each slide.
