AbouttheCEP/CLP

TheCommunityEnglishProgram(CEP),apartoftheCommunityLanguageProgram(CLP),isa
uniqueandintegralpartoftheTESOLandAppliedLinguisticsProgramsatTeachersCollege,
ColumbiaUniversity.ItprovidesEnglishasasecondlanguageandforeignlanguageinstructiontoadult
learnersofdiversenationalitiesandbackgrounds.Inaddition,theCLPservesasanonsitelanguage
educationlabinwhichTESOLandAppliedLinguisticsfacultyandstudentsenrolledintheprograms
teachthecoursesandusetheCLPasasettingforempiricalinquiry.HereatTeachersCollegewe
believethatobservationandclassroomresearcharethebestwaytolearnabouthowweteachandgain
insightsintohowteachingmighttakeplace.Thus,weencourageobservationandclassroomresearch
andwantpeopletouseitasatoolforlearning.Ongoingassessmentandprogramevaluationallowusto
maketheCLPabetterprogram.
