Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an irreversible, progressive respiratory disease and associated with an abnormal inflammatory response of the lung. COPD is one of the causes mortalitias and morbidity throughout the world, it is estimated that by the year 2030, COPD will be the third leading cause of death throughout the world. Shortness of breath, chronic cough and chronic sputum production are the main problems of COPD patients. Spirometry is the main diagnostic tool to determine the degree of COPD. COPD Assessment Test (CAT) is a questionnaire to see the quality of life or assess the severity of symptoms in COPD patients, while the Modified Medical Research Council (MMRC) is a questionnaire to assess the degree of breathnessless in COPD patients. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the degree of breathlessness by MMRC questionnaires and quality of life according to the CAT questionnaire in patients with COPD at Adam Malik Hospital. The type of research conducted is analytic observational method with cross sectional design. The research data in the form of primary data, namely stable COPD patients who visited the Adam Malik Hospital. The sample of this research is determined using total sampling with the total of 38 people obtained. The research findings indicate that 9 people (23.68%) are classified in the degree of COPD I, 20 people (52.63%) are in the degree of COPD II, 4 people (10.53%) are in the degree of COPD III, and 5 people (13.16%) are in the degree of COPD IV. As seen in CAT scores, there are obtained a score of 0-10 (mild) by 9 people, a score of 11-20 (medium) by 20 people, a score of 21-30 (severe) by 5 people, and a score of 31-40 (very severe) by 4 people. As seen from MMRC gradation, there are obtained gradation 1 by 6 people, gradation 2 by 3 people, gradation 3 by 20 people, gradation 4 by 4 people, and gradation 5 by 5 people. The result of SPSS analysis (Fisher Test) finds a significant relationship, with p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05), between the degree of breathnessless and MMRC questionnaire. Also, it is obtained a significant correlation between the quality life by CAT questionnaire using Spearman correlation test with r = 0.919. Based on the result analysis, it is concluded that CAT or MMRC questionnaires can be used in order to determine the degree of COPD. Similar studies need to be done in a wider scope in terms of
