ABSTRACT

The Death penalty or the Capital punishment is a legal process whereby a person is
put in death by the state as a punishment for a crime. Death penalty is normally awarded
for crimes which are regarded as capital crimes or offenses. This is an effective method to
deter crimes especially to those crimes enumerated under the Republic Act No. 7659.
Such penalty will give more teeth to the law and will serve as a warning to those
criminals who intends to commit heinous crimes. This study will provide information that
the reimposition of death penalty will decrease crime rates and improve the economy and
society. One of the purposes of this penalty is to permanently remove dangerous
criminals from the society because once they are executed and proven guilty, they can
never commit another crime because of the penalty of Death.

Death Penalty may greatly influence the crime status within the nation. It could still
play a major psychological factor to the person whose about to commit a crime unless
that person is willing enough to end his/her life with the help of the law. It is true that
each life is important, but what about the life taken brutally? What about the women who
experienced rape? What about other heinous crimes? Does the government together with
religious orders only plan to pile them up inside a space constricted cages only to support
life?

This study is focused on the reimposition of Death Penalty in the Philippines to cases
mentioned under Republic Act No. 7659 which was repealed by Republic Act No. 9346.
This study aims to provide analysis regarding the importance of death penalty in order to
deter crimes mentioned under RA No. 7659.
