Mrs. Ringguths K/1 Class Kindergarten Outcomes

The following is a list of the prescribed learning outcomes I intend to cover during the
second term.
STUDENT BEHAVIOUR AND WORK HABITS
Is friendly, kind and helpful in the classroom and on
the playground/show positive friendship behaviours
Follows school/classroom rules and routines
Participates and contributes in class and group
activities
Sits quietly and listens attentively during group times
Makes good choices (i.e. whom to sit beside, etc)
Treats others and property respectfully
Identifies feelings, manage anger appropriately and
practice self-control
Identifies simple problems and uses strategies to solve them in a positive way
Cleans up work space and puts tools and materials away
Takes care of belongings
Independently gets ready for class and for going home
Completes daily responsibilities (i.e. hand in Library books and newsletter bags,
etc)
Focuses on a task and completes it on time
Works independently on assignments
Follows directions (2-step directions)
LANGUAGE ARTS
Reading Readiness
Identifies 15 uppercase and 15 lowercase letters of the alphabet (in random order)
Identifies 15 letter sounds associated with individual letters
Identifies some high-frequency words (ie. their name, I, to, mom, dad)
Engages in reading or reading-like behaviour (begin to track print when "reading")
Describes favourite reading materials
Shows an understanding of what is being read to him/her
Demonstrates an understanding that letters represent sounds and that written
words convey meaning
Listening/Speaking
Identifies rhyming words and produces a rhyming word with a prompt (nonsense
words are acceptable)
Orally manipulates sounds in words (ie. isolating the first sound of a word, clapping
syllables and breaking apart compound words)
Demonstrates being a good listener for a sustained period of time (ie. does not
interrupt, focuses on the speaker, follows a short list of instructions, asks relevant
questions)
Demonstrates being a good speaker (ie. stays on topic, raises their hand to share
an answer, uses an inside voice, speaks clearly with appropriate volume, tone &
pace)
Listens and responds to stories and class discussions
Begins to recognize the difference between questions and comments
Uses language to communicate needs to peers and adults (ie. ask for help)
Uses language rather than actions to negotiate situations
Shares experiences and interests with classmates (ie. Show and Tell)

Writing
Creates simple messages using a combination of pictures and symbols to covey
meaning (ie. in Journals)
Prints most letters of the alphabet (upper & lower case), own name, a few simple
words and record a prominent sound in a word
Prints most letters from left to right and top to bottom that are uniform in size and
shape
Distinguishes between letters and numbers
MATHEMATICS
Counts orally by 1's from 10 to 1 (without prompting)
Identifies numerals 0 to 10 in random order
Relates written number to its matching quantity (1-10)
Recognizes, makes and compares groups of objects (1-10)
Recognizes at a glance and names familiar arrangements of objects/dots (1-5)
SCIENCE
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and Seasonal Change
describes properties of materials (colour, shape, texture, size, and weight)
identifies materials that make up familiar objects
describes ways to rethink, refuse, reduce, reuse, and recycle
demonstrates ability to observe surroundings
describes features of their immediate environment
SOCIAL STUDIES
identifies places that are part of their lives
identifies characteristics of different local environments
demonstrates responsible behavior in caring for their immediate environment
PHYSICAL EDUCATION (Taught by Mrs. Wong)

FINE ARTS
Music
responds to beat in music
represent simple rhythmic patterns
uses singing skills to reproduce short melodies and can distinguish one melody

accompany stories, nursery rhymes, or songs
demonstrates appropriate use of classroom instruments
demonstrates a willingness to participate and share personal thoughts and feelings

demonstrates appropriate audience and performance skills
HEALTH AND CAREER EDUCATION
identifies ways to avoid hazards and potentially dangerous situations in the home,
at school on the road and in the community
demonstrates an ability to access emergency services, including calling 911 and
giving relevant information (e.g. name, location, and nature of problem)
differentiates between safe and unsafe substances (e.g. any unknown substance,
any substance from an unknown person, any substance used for other than its
intended purpose)
