Subject: Public record request in re authorization to film PSA on school property
Dear Ms. Gramstorff:
Under the California Public Records Act 6250 et seq., I am requesting copies of correspondence, emails
and records of communication with and about independent filmmaker Rejina Sincic related to the
production of her public service announcement video titled Stop Gun Violence that was recorded at
North Oakland Community Charter School, for which you recently issued a statement disavowing school
sanction. This would include correspondence between school administration employees and officials
requesting and concerning the decision to allow the PSA to be recorded on NOCCS premises, and any
follow-up communications between all parties to include the schools request to remove its name from the
PSA end credits, and any subsequent communications with Sincic and among administrators and staff.
If there are any fees for searching or copying these records, please inform me if the cost will exceed ten
dollars ($10.00). However, I would also like to request a waiver of all fees in that the disclosure of the
requested information is in the public interest, particularly to ensure Sincic observed all applicable laws
regarding possessing a firearm or imitation firearm on school premises, and the requested
communications will contribute significantly to the publics understanding of what authorizations were
requested, given and retracted to Sincic, and who representing NOCCS provided them. I am a recognized
freelance journalist cited as a source in numerous published books and articles, a masthead-recognize
field editor for a national magazine, and a regular contributor on a nationally-syndicated radio program,
and my intent is to make such information available to the public.
The California Public Records Act requires a response within ten (10) business days. If access to the
records I am requesting will take longer, please contact me with information about when I might expect
copies of the requested records.
If you deny any or all of this request, please cite each specific exemption you feel justifies the refusal to
release the information and notify me of the appeal procedures available to me under the law.
