Problem Statement
: Electrical power distribution and transmission is being a one way process. That
means the power distribution company do not have the actual real time peak load record. The peak load
records which the grid have is based on the surveys conducted on the regular intervals by the
distribution companies. Due to this, the consumer has to pay the higher cost for using in the peak time
i.e. the consumer using less has to pay at high tarrif rate. The present monitoring system uses plcc
which has narrow band and is not suitable for sending the peak loading time of the users. So, the
scheduling and tracking of peak load and non peak load is not possible by the presently existing
communication links.
Utilities of Project
: By this project, the the electrical utility grid will be computerized. The phones
having computer in them are called smart phones likewise the computerised grid is known as "SMART
GRID". This means the electical utility system will become the two way digitalized system. The smart
grid will provide quality power at affordable cost. The investments on voltage stabilizers, inverters and
other standby devices will be reduced. It will provide better visiblity of losses, in India the AT &C
(Aggregate Technical and Commercial) losses are more than 30 percent. The tariff will be decided by
time of use (TOU). Through tracking, the households can be supplied at peak load time hence reducing
the domestic per unit cost. This can be done by combining two things by cutailing and shifting certain
loads, small microgrids that can island from the grid during peak hours and integration of distributed
and renewable energy resources.
