What is a collaborative CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), consists of a community of individuals (shareholders) pledging

to support a farm operation so that the farmland becomes the communitys farm. In this system, the
shareholders and farmers provide mutual support and share in the benefits and risks of food production.
In our case we are a collaborative CSA, a cCSA; two farms working together to provide produce for the
Loess Hills cCSA. Shareholders of our farms pledge in advance to cover part of the anticipated costs of
farm operations and farmer salaries. In return, shareholders receive their share of our farms bounty
throughout the growing season, as well as satisfaction g ained from reconnecting to the land and
supporting the local economy. Shareholders also share in risks, including poor harvest due to
unfavorable weather, pests or other unavoidable impacts.
